Gratitude and Beauty Exercise
When you know you’re leaving your present career—but you’re still in it—it can be challenging to maintain energy and focus. Two exercises to stay happily more present are Gratitude and Beauty.
Gratitude
What am I grateful for today? |
The value of gratitude is so talked-about that you might tune out hearing about it once again. Please don’t. You’ll miss an opportunity to practice it at a crucial point in your life. The exercise goes like this:
- Every day you work, write down 5 things you are grateful for at your present job—not the career you are moving toward, but at your present job.
- If you can’t think of 5 things, think again. They can be as trivial as the brand of tea carried in the cafeteria or as profound as a friendship you’ve developed with a co-worker.
- Continue this until you leave. That’s right, up until the last day.
Beauty
What beauty did I see today? What beauty did I create today? |
Beauty is everywhere, in expected and unexpected places. What is beautiful where you work? On your commute? Remember, beauty doesn’t have to expressed only through objects that you see. It can also be found in sounds, feelings, and relationships—how we treat each other.
Practice noticing beauty in the same way you notice gratitude. Soon you’ll see it everywhere.
